Track & trace for bicycles
On 16 September 2019, a pilot project on track & trace of bicycles and bicycle frames was launched in Russia in accordance with Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1183 dated 11 September 2019. The experiment was completed on May 31, 2020.
The list of the goods to be marked and traced, in addition to two-wheeled bicycles, includes tricycles, frames and motorised bicycles.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia together with the business community will develop a schedule and methodological recommendations for testing the full tracing cycle from production to consumer by 30 September 2019.
Assessment of the progress and results of the experiment and submission of the relevant reports to the Government of the Russian Federation will be carried out by 31 December 2019 and 30 June 2020. The authorised government bodies are the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Federal Tax Service, the Federal Customs Service and the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being.

The companies that decide to participate in the experiment will be the first to test the track & trace system operation. Take part in meetings of project expert and working groups. Come up with suggestions on marking of goods.

«Marking is useful, first of all, to protect the market from being flooded by the counterfeit products coming from China. To protect the ultimate buyer from buying junk, assembled from unknown spare parts at a cost seven to eight times less than it actually is, instead of certain brand bicycle. Coming back to the bicycle market: it is quite large and receptive in Russia, it is about 4 million units. And even in spite of the crisis we have, the bicycle market has practically not shrunk in terms of state and in terms of individual households. It maintained its volume. Surprisingly, it is mostly controlled by Chinese manufacturers. In our opinion, marking will help domestic manufacturers to get on their feet, expand the production of components in the Russian Federation and move from partial production, as with Velomotors, for example, to assembly production, more complete production so that the bicycle could actually be Russian.»
